The beaded poppy not only symbolizes remembrance but also aligns with the spirit of truth and reconciliation. AM01 - Flatbed UV printing on the Roland LEF 2-200
Presenter: Randy Walc
This session will provide a basic overview of preparing files and printing items using a flatbed printer. A presentation format will explore various materials that can be printed on, and discuss the pros and cons of the printer. Attendees will also see a live demonstration of the machine in operation and have the opportunity to print on an object/material.
AM02 - Q&A on Skills Robotics
Presenters: Jeremy Campbell, Thomas Murphey, Ken Hartikainen
We will be showcasing our teams’ robots from last year. We will discuss Nationals and showing videos taken there of the National Teams robots. We will discuss this year’s game and help provide attendees with resources to get started coaching a robotics team including products, contacts, coaching strategies, etc. Representation of the National Technical Committee (NTC) for Skills Robotics will be present.
AM03 - Sky-High Learning: Drones in the Classroom

In this session we will be discussing how to approach drones in your classroom. Drones offer a new approach to robotics in the classroom. They offer a new way to integrate coding into your classes, as well as an ambitious project for higher grades. The use of drones in industries is growing, so preparing students for the basics in high school may give them an edge going into their future careers. Join us to learn about programming and flying drones, as well as where to buy, and how to get your license.
AM04 - Resin Print Ring Casting

Combining 3D modeling and resin printing with traditional lost wax casting, this session will give an overview of the equipment required and processes necessary to implement this project into your class. Introduce your class to 3D modeling and resin printing to create unique, intricate, and reproducible designs that can be used with traditional lost wax casting techniques.
AM05 - Arduinos
Presenter: Tim Gysel
In this interactive session, participants will advance from basic to intermediate skills in the world of Arduino technology. The session will cover the selection of boards, use of software, and adaptation of hardware to build a variety of circuits. With microcontrollers becoming increasingly accessible in today’s electronics, gaining a deeper understanding of their tools and applications across industrial arts and other curriculum areas can unlock new possibilities. Attendees will work hands-on with Arduinos to create circuits of varying complexity, and explore how these concepts can be applied to enhance existing projects or develop new ones.
AM06 - Setting Up a Blacksmith Shop: Essentials and Steps

Learn how to establish a smithy, including the necessary equipment and how to acquire it.
Discover the tools you'll need, the process of obtaining them, and any challenges you might encounter. Address safety concerns associated with working with fire. Find resources and opportunities for learning. Explore project ideas and strategies for persuading your admin to approve your knife-making plans.

Our focus today is to introduce you to the cutting-edge features and benefits of Festool and Shaper Origin tools, specifically tailored for school instructors like yourselves. Over the next hour, we’ll be demonstrating how these tools can enhance both your teaching and your students' hands-on learning experiences. We’ll start by showcasing Festool's orbital sanders, their high-performance abrasives, and their clean air dust extractors, which help maintain a safe and efficient workspace. You’ll get to see how these tools are designed for both precision and comfort, providing a smooth workflow for any project. We will also be demonstrating the Festool DF 500 DOMINO joining machine for solid wood and carcass construction. Next, we’ll explore the Shaper Origin, a revolutionary handheld CNC router that combines the flexibility of traditional woodworking tools with the accuracy of digital technology. AM16 - Introduction to 3D Printing: Beginner Friendly

This session will cover the basic workflow of 3D printing, taking you from finding or creating a 3D modeling, through preparing the files for a printer, and finally using a 3D printer to produce a finished product. Attention will be paid to troubleshooting common issues.

If you are just starting your new role as a High School Apprenticeship Program (HSAP) teacher, come to this session and learn. This session will focus on the practical day-to-day development of your program to help students get quality paid apprenticeships. PM02 - Decolonizing Graphics

I will be sharing how I use the Circle of Courage to guide my pedagogy in the graphics lab. Additionally, I will discuss the initiatives I am implementing to foster a more inclusive, diverse, and welcoming educational environment. We will investigate typefaces across languages to unpack Latin alphabet assumptions. This session will include time for questions and sharing.
PM03 - Kombucha Conversations: Exploring the Art and Science of Fermentation

Welcome to a session about one of the latest craze in healthy alternatives. We are going to Kombucha Kamp, where we will talk about nature's original soda! What makes it healthy? What is a Scoby, and why did you put a giant slug of a mushroom in your sun-tea? “I heard it's full of Probiotics, or alcohol, well it's one or the other or maybe both”? Why drink pop when you can drink some booch! We will have a brief discussion about this crazy stuff that tastes great and show you how to make it. Tasting optional!
PM04 - Sharpening

Interested in learning the basics of sharpening? Sharpening kitchen knives is a great way to improve your culinary skills but is also a fantastic introduction to keeping woodworking tools sharp. You'll learn proper techniques for sharpening knives, using whetstones and honing tools, ensuring your knives stay razor-sharp for effortless cutting. In this hands-on session, we will practice sharpening kitchen knives but with focus on the similarities between sharpening all tools, from chisels to scissors to lawnmower blades.
PM05 - Hazard Identification and Risk Control Workshop
Presenter: Tom Miller
The objective of the Hazard Identification and Risk Control workshop is to provide committee members, supervisors and workers with an understanding of hazard identification and risk control. Participants will learn about the four streams for identifying hazards and will be introduced to some of the methods most often used to carry out the task. The hazards identified will be the first step participants will use when learning to prioritize risk. They will learn about the various levels of risk control and the processes involved in eliminating or reducing the risk in a job task. This hands-on interactive workshop will cover why safety is important, legal obligations, how to identify hazards, how to prioritize risk, as well as emphasize the integral role of safety culture within the organization and team.
PM06 - Introduction to 3D Printing: Intermediate

This session will include a brief primer on 3D printing and go into further detail on the process of slicing models for 3D printing, as well as various materials that can be used for printing, and higher level troubleshooting. Some familiarity with 3D printing recommended.
PM07 - Get a Haircut and Get a Real Job: How the High School Apprenticeship Program Works Together with Vocational Programming to Provide Quality Industry Training for Students

In this session you will get a good understanding of the High School Apprenticeship Program (HSAP). Together, we will look at how voc-ed teachers can collaborate with HSAP teachers to build and promote vocational programs and high-quality apprenticeships that can help students begin their practical hours in their trade. This session will look closely at both unpaid work experiences coming out of vocational programs and paid apprenticeships set up by High School Apprenticeship Program teachers.

This session will take place on the Land at the sacred grounds of Little Pegius. We will work with our hands to carve rattles that can be used in ceremony or as toys for young ones. Through informal discussion, this session will also explore the roles Industrial Arts teachers can play in Indigenous Land-based education. Weather permitting.
