FULL - Tim St. Vincent - Credit Counselling Society

Tim St. Vincent returns to provide professional development to Manitoba teachers! The Credit Counselling Society believes that all Canadians can achieve financial well-being. They’ve supported this vision for over 26 years by providing free credit counselling, low-cost debt management solutions, and financial education. To date, their clients have repaid over $750 million in debt. They’ve saved thousands of dollars in interest and rebuilt their credit ratings sooner than if they’d tried to repay their debts on their own. Tim will offer a follow up session in the afternoon as well. Whether you are new or experienced in teaching ACE courses, look forward to growing your financial knowledge!

Available to all educators, this is a valuable opportunity to ensure you emerge recharged and equipped to inspire your students effectively.

FULL - Session 1 Choice C: Angela Baraniuk - Brain Breaks

Do you notice your students losing focus during class? The “sweet spot” of concentration and focus for teens is about 25 minutes, so how do we keep them engaged in learning for a whole class period? Do not underestimate the power of brain breaks in the high school classroom!

Brain breaks are scientifically proven to boost attention and focus, improve learning and creativity AND improve mental health. They can involve physical activities like stretching or walking, group activities, challenges and games, and quiet time (just to name a few). The idea is students are switching to do something DIFFERENT than what they were doing. You only need a five-minute brain break to see increased engagement and productivity in your students! This session will touch on the neuroscience behind brain breaks but mostly focus on actual activities appropriate for high school students that you can incorporate seamlessly into your classroom. Come prepared to try some of these brain breaks yourself and have a little FUN!

Presenter: Angela Baraniuk, Dakota Collegiate
