MTS President Applauds ‘Stability and Commitment’

The Manitoba government has announced a 3.4% increase in public school funding for the 2025-2026 fiscal year—significantly surpassing last year’s inflation rate of 1.1%.

“This level of commitment is encouraging,” says Manitoba Teachers’ Society President Nathan Martindale. “We have long advocated for stable and predictable funding for public education, and this increase will have a positive impact on both students and educators.”

Martindale also welcomed the reinstatement of the Education Funding Stakeholder Advisory Committee. “This committee will provide education partners with a critical opportunity to engage in collaborative discussions and offer informed advice to the government on public education funding matters,” Martindale explained.

Martindale highlighted that many of these conversations will centre around ensuring equitable access to essential programs and services for students across Manitoba. “With growing enrolment and rising needs in our schools, both teachers and students require greater resources to meet these challenges,” he emphasized.

This year’s funding announcement includes targeted investments such as $30 million for school nutrition programs and $6 million for capital infrastructure support.
