Collaborative Communication Between Preservice Teachers, Cooperating Teachers, and Faculty
Advisors
Leeanne Gerry, Alexis Silver, and Wendy Zander
Sponsor:
Location: Theatre

This structured round-table discussion, led by Leeanne Gerry (preservice teacher perspective), Alexis Silver (cooperating teacher perspective), and Dr. Wendy Zander (faculty advisor perspective) is open to preservice teachers, cooperating teachers, faculty advisors, and anyone interested or planning to serve in
those roles.

How might cooperating teachers become true facilitators of learning and practice, while maintaining routines and practices important to their students and program? How might preservice teachers take chances in safe environments, while continuing to contribute to established foundations? How might a
faculty advisor support learning?

A collaborative communication system is crucial. Formal and informal goal-setting early in (or better yet, before) the placement helps focus scheduling, practices, and orientation to the program and (most importantly) people. Goals are achieved through continuous communication, documentation, and
reflective practice while addressing strengths, challenges, and next steps. This session will offer participants sample routines, strategies, and resources that may deepen field experience learning.
