BILINGUAL TEACHER WELFARE STAFF OFFICER
The Manitoba Teachers’ Society (MTS) is a proud union and professional organization dedicated to advancing and safeguarding the welfare of teachers, the status of the teaching profession, and the cause of public education in Manitoba. The Society represents approximately 16,600 public education teachers and principal teachers across 40 Local associations.
The Society invites applications for a Bilingual Teacher Welfare Staff Officer who is a highly skilled professional with a keen interest in and support for union values, the teaching profession and publicly funded education.
The Teacher Welfare Staff Officer provides direct support, advocacy, and resources to individual members and Local associations related to working conditions, labour relations, and employment-related matters. As a member of the Teacher Welfare team, this staff officer will have duties and responsibilities including but are not limited to:
- Attending meetings with members and school division personnel.
- Responding to inquiries.
- Developing, updating, and sharing resources.
- Working with legal counsel as required.
- Supporting coordinating, facilitating, and liaising with various committees.
- Preparing for, attending, and presenting at arbitration hearings.
- Incorporating equity, diversity, and social justice principles and concepts into services.
- Designing, developing, and facilitating professional learning services on a variety of relevant topics that advance and safeguard the interests of members.
- Liaising/collaborating with other departments on projects, initiatives, and facilitation.
The successful candidate will have a bachelor or after degree in education, business, labour relations and/or commerce and minimum 5 years of experience. Preference will be given to applicants who have any of the following:
- Fluent in both English and French
- Teaching certificate and teaching experience
- Graduate degree in Education
- Labour Relations education and experience
- Leadership experience
- Knowledge of the Society purpose, activities, bylaws, and policies
- Knowledge of the public education system in Manitoba/Canada
The successful candidate will also have proficient skills in verbal and written communication, problem-solving, emotional intelligence, productive group dynamics skills, organizational and priority management, and a variety of software applications and communication technology platforms. The Teacher Welfare Staff Officer will have a demonstrated ability to foster positive relationships, use research and analysis to inform the work, collaborate within a team environment, work independently and take initiative, handle multiple tasks in a demanding environment, travel within and outside the province, and work evenings and weekends as required.
The terms and conditions of employment, including benefits, are covered by a Collective Agreement. The starting date for this position will as soon as possible, as mutually agreed upon.
