- Session Descriptions -
Session A: Using French for Real - How to Use Real Language from Day 1 with Emerging French Learners - Andrew Hedlin & Kelly EisBrenner
As language teachers, many of us struggle to know how much French we should be using in the class, whether our students understand us, and how to help them improve. This session will provide practical tips and ideas to help you and your students.

Andrew and Kelly are passionate about transforming the French classroom by diving into what the research tells us about language acquisition (Comprehensible Input) and exploring how we as teachers can best set our students up for growth.
_

Session B: Integrating Technology into the FCC Classroom - Meghann Polten
Discover multiple resources to facilitate the integration of Francophone and Indigenous cultures in the grades 4 to 12 French: Communication and Culture classrooms.

Meghann is the library technician at La Direction des ressources éducatives françaises (DREF).
_

Session C: Reading in the French: Communication and Culture Classroom - Jodi Daly
Reading is a rich and meaningful way to extend French language learning. Reading provides opportunities to learn new words, to see linguistic structures used in context, to learn about Francophone cultures, and it provides opportunities for enjoyment and making personal connections. Reading enhances the development of oral communication skills. Participants will explore reading options, discuss the three phases of the reading process and how these phases are experienced in the FCC classroom, and they will discuss reading assessment.

Jodi is a consultant with Manitoba FCC Curriculum.
_

Session D: Music Mania - Isabel Vachon
Participants will learn about “Manie Musicale” which allows students from around the world to participate in a March Madness style playoff bracket to predict which of the 16 Francophone songs selected will win the “championship”. Teachers will learn how to facilitate this opportunity with their students and connect to other French learners around the globe.

Isabel is a French Communication and Culture specialist.
